32 Days

Hi there! I'm back, and as usual, very sorry for my absence.

The past 4 weeks have truly flown by. I've been whisked away with weekend trips, side jobs, applications/interviews, lunches, and apartment organizing. Needless to say I have a problem with over-scheduling. I'm constantly guilty about inactivity so I fill my off days with needless tasks to feel "productive." Yet somehow I typically manage to exclude writing from the list, which is wild because that's one of the few tasks I actually enjoy.

Maybe this odd phenomenon comes from an inner belief that hobbies aren't important and I have to do "real" things to "keep up" with everyone else. Or maybe I'm just a neurotic task maker overthinking her decisions.

Either way I gotta chill out, which is exactly what brings me here today. It's been far too long since my last internet chat, and a lot has happened in the past 30 days that I want to share.

So, let's catch up!

1. The yellow dress

I think I've worn the dress pictured (similar option) at least 3 times (honestly probably 5) in the past month, but can you blame me?! It just works. The color is very summery without being too bright, it can easily be dressed up or down, and the silhouette feels timeless. It's perfect. The Guggenheim of sundresses really. I intend to find one in every color imaginable, then spend the rest of my days looking like I belong in a grassy field. I highly encourage anyone reading this to find their favorite frock and join me!

2. Asking for help

This summer I spent time working for a social media company which proved to be much harder than expected. Corporate social media is fairly new to me so I spent the first few weeks feeling very lost. My questions were constant. "How do you animate a GIF," "Which hex numbers are the right ones to use?" "How do you format a photo?" "Where's the bathroom?" The list went on and on. Unfortunately for me the people I worked with were very cool, and very busy, and had very little time to walk me through a task.

I wanted to seem self sufficient, but also didn't want to go crazy trying to solve everything on my own. So, I came up with what I like to call "The Struggle Bus Procedure" to get by. In the end I was able to work quicker, and I became a lot more useful around the office!

*this might sound obvious to you but they weren't to me when I was panicking to meet a deadline,
so let's just be nice about it. Oki*

              1. Google it first
              2. Check for a company handbook (sometimes they're sneaky and hidden in a google drive)
              3. Png/message your friendliest looking coworker
              4. Ask your boss when all else fails
              5. Most importantly, don't waste more than 5-10 minutes trying to solve a problem alone!

3. Cowgirl boots

These boots are definitely my least practical purchase but also my new! favorite! thing! I'm still working on the best ways to wear them but, I'm overjoyed by their presence in their closet. I've also noticed a rise in western style boots like these ones (and these, and also these). So maybe my impulse shopping brain is onto something.

4. Full moon self care

I know it sounds odd but hear me out. A couple of days ago a coworker of mind mentioned that she only cuts her hair on the day of, or days leading up to, a full moon. I was immediately very confused and extremely intrigued, so I looked it up and its not uncommon! Apparently cutting your hair during this time can lead to a month of fuller and healthier locks. I have braids so this tip doesn't really apply to me, but I'm dying to learn more about full moon beauty rituals. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

5. S'mores

I don't have anything particularly informative to say other than the fact that I love my friends. I went home for a weekend July and spent one night around a bonfire with people I've known since first grade. After high-school everyone moved to different cities so now we only see each other a handful of days out of the year. But no matter how old we get or how far we move I can always count on a bunch of us to gather in someones backyard, roast s'mores, swap stories, and catch up on all that we missed. ♡
