One thing I can't shut up about lately is aloe vera. Who would have thought a trip to Ulta would lead me to the literal love of my life. He's reliable, smooth, comforting and only $8 a jar. Seriously though, slathering my face with this stuff has done wonders for my skin!
Aloe is most commonly known for soothing sunburns. This is because the aloe plant contains polysaccharides which are compounds that promote skin repair. The plant is also comprised primarily of water and active vitamins that keep you skin feeling refreshed and hydrated. Its properties are furthermore known to keep acne at bay and aid in fine lines and wrinkles. Basically, it's like a hug for your face. A gel textured, beach day with mom smelling hug.
Here's how I use it!
1. Morning / Night
After cleansing my skin, I like to follow with a dollop of aloe smoothed all over my face as a substitute for toner. I usually find that toners strip my skin, whereas Aloe leaves it feeling clean and refreshed.
The gels consistency is slightly tacky but it spreads easily and only takes a few seconds to sink in. Once it has, I like to follow up with a lightweight moisturizer. Then, I put a 2 drops of vitamin e oil into the palm of my hand and pat it on my face and neck to lock everything in!
2. Moisturizing mask
I love whipping up this mask when my face looks a little extra tired. It only takes about 30 seconds to make, and never fails to rejuvenate my skin!
All I do is put a scoop of aloe into my palm, add a few drops of vitamin e (sometimes I'll thrown in some tea tree oil too if I have a breakout!), mix it all together, and then apply it on my face.
I'll usually leave it on for about 5 to 10 minutes, then I rinse it off with warm water and pat my face dry with a clean towel. The aloe makes my skin feel replenished while the vitamin e adds a moisturizing factor that makes my face glow!
Long story short. Buy yourself some aloe and see what happens. I promise you won't regret it!
*but maybe do a patch test on your arm to make sure you aren't allergic. Safety first kids :)
