Have you ever had one of those days that feels like a twisted game of whack a mole. I'm talking the type of day where no matter how many times you try to get back up, life's there to knock you right back down.
Picture this, its 9am and you wake up to the sound of your fourth alarm reminding you that, once again, your running late. You go to make coffee but are out of beans and burn your only piece of toast. The shirt you threw on came directly from the dirty pile, and the only semi clean socks you can find are mismatched. When you run out the door and finally make it to your destination, you realize that you forgot your keys at home and are now locked out of your apartment.
Who knows, maybe you get a bad grade on an essay you thought you nailed. Or maybe Chase sends a message that your account was overdrawn. Either way the day turns into a giant clusterfuck of mishaps, tense interactions, and awkward encounters. Maybe nothing too horrible happens at all, but for some reason you still feel meh.
It's just. One. Of those. Days.
When these occurrences happen my immediate response is to shop. Surely a new candle, face mask, or tube of lipstick will help. Honestly it works! But only for a few minutes.
After the thrill of shopping wears off, I'm back at square one - wearing mix matched socks and having to deal with whatever's bothering me in the first place.
In attempts to ween myself off of bandaid solutions, I asked my girlfriends how they handle the "whack a mole" curse.
Below are the wise words of bunch of 20 somethings, who have braved far more shitty days than me but are still standing ♡

1.) Danielle Gallagher
Start a gratitude journal. Sit down and write three things that happened in your day that you're grateful for. Make sure it's specific! The more you do it, the more appreciative you'll be of the small things.
"When life gets me down, I always make time to write out my thoughts in a journal and spend a little extra time in the gym. Exercise releases endorphins that makes us happy and reduces stress. It also makes us more tired so we sleep better too and everyones happier fully rested"
3.) Margaret Cosgrove
"Make a goddess made playlist and shamelessly dance to it alone in your room if you're feeling stuck, anxious, or bored. I try to open a door or window when I'm dancing so the energy I'm getting rid of can get out of my space!"
4.) Caroline Hughes
"Talk to someone! Dealing with things by yourself is sometimes the opposite of healthy"
5.) Emma Chioke
"Sometimes I just go running to get some endorphins in. If it's a really shitty day, I give myself permission to be upset. I just cry it out, take a shower, and put on a nice outfit"
